Need to cut or extrude a text from a cylindrical shape but don´t know how? Don´t sweat it, just read thru this tutorial and you will soon master the art of rolling up text in TopSolid 7!
There are two features mentioned that are essential to this tutorial, one being “Rolling up” and the other is “Imprint”.

Obviously, we need a cylinder to apply the text to, may it be a face, a pipe or a solid. So a good start would be to create one.
When you have created your cylinder it´s time to create the text. Use the Text command to create your text, adjust size, font, angle etc to fit your needs. You can position the text anywhere on the screen.

So, now you got your text and need to place it on the cylinder.
To do this go to Sketch/Spatial/Other operations and choose Rolling up. In this command you need to select your sketch (text) and where to position it. When done click ok.

Now you got your text on the cylinder but you now need to create a surface from it to extrude.
Go to Shape/Surface options/Imprint. Select the areas you want to imprint, in our case the letters themselves . Then click ok.
That wasn´t so hard now was it?
_

Now extrude the text using Shape/Other operations/Thicken. Set your value and direction depending on if you want the text extruded from the cylinder (outwards) or if you want to extrude it to the inside (inwards). In this case we will do the latter.
_

Now we want to remove the shape of the text from the cylinder using trim.
Go to Shape/Trim and choose the extruded text you just created as the shape to use as a tool and click ok.
When the trim is done, we are finished!
